Kisumu County government has been challenged to promote good governance by ensuring public participation both at the county and grassroots levels.
Kisumu County Carwash lobby group through their representative Alvince Omwanda urged the county government to foster good governance by initiating civic and educational forums that would improve residents’ well-being.
Omwando who spoke on Thursday in Kisumu, said the public has been sidelined and hence needed to be consulted and educated on every programme the government wants to initiate.
He said it is through grassroots public participation that residents will be empowered.
“We need to improve the public’s civic awareness at the grassroots. The county government needs to allocate funds for civic education,” said Omwanda.
The lobby group representative said public participation will also ensure accountability.
