Uasin Gishu County Assembly Majority Leader has called on the national government to involve the county government in ensuring that security is restored in the country.
Speaking in his office on Monday, Josphat Lowoi said it’s high time the national government involved the county governments in matters security in a bid to restore sanity to the docket.
“The security docket should be devolved to the county level since we are the ones who have the know how of the people living in our area of jurisdiction through the use of chiefs, their assistants and village elders, who can supply us with relevant information concerning what is happening on the ground,” he said.
He added: "The Jubilee government should act at speed and ensure the lives of Kenyans are not at stake by enhancing security, since it’s their fundamental right as entrenched in the Kenya’s Constitution.
Lowoi said that the national government should relieve all security personnel of their duties over claims of laxity and incompetence.
"The security personnel are doing nothing yet Kenyan lives are being lost every now and then. No one seems to be taking responsibility of the loss of innocent lives," said Lowoi.
He asked religious leaders from all divides to work together with the government in ensuring security is enhanced in the country saying that security begins with them.
