Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has suspended several senior health officers in the county’s hospitals.

This comes days after the news of four newborns at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital hit the country.

The hospital administrator, Lawrence Mulungye, has been suspended for a month to pave way for further investigations.

Kathiani hospital head officer Alice Nyamai has also been suspended on account of the facility being dirty and workers slacking off.

Also suspended is Arnold Mbule, the assistant administrator, Masinga sub-county on allegations of stolen cement.

The governor has set up a commission comprising of Naomi Mutie, minister of health in the county, Collins Sila, head doctor in Machakos, Dr Max Ludanyo, Dr Charles Nzioki, Dr Kirubi Kariuki, Dr Julianna Muendo, Mr Jeremiah Mutunga and Jecinta Kondo to find out whether the deaths were due to technical faults or neglect.

Speaking at Kathiani hospital, he made it clear that those found guilty of the allegations were bound to lose their jobs.
