The public spat between Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua and his deputy Bernard Kiala over allegations of corruption and abuse of office has drawn condemnation from politicians in the county.
Mr Stephen Mule MP Matungulu, Victor Munyaka MP Machakos town and former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti have warned both the governor and his deputy to forget their differences and seek a common ground for the sake of development of the county.
Speaking in different occasions, the three leaders expressed disappointment on the ongoing war of words between the two county bosses and warned that their differences could cost the county a great deal of development and progress. "The war on graft cannot be successful fought and won through social media posts and press conferences but through genuine goodwill and commitment among leaders,” said Ndeti.
Her words were echoed by Dr Munyaka who described the differences between the two as 'unfortunate and in a bad taste. "It is important for the two leaders to come back to their senses and understand they were voted to deliver services to the people and not endless fights," said Munyaka.
He said Machakos County risked being branded a hotbed of political conflict if the two leaders fail to reconcile.
On the other hand Matungulu MP Stephen Mule accused the two leaders of ‘playing to the gallery' with the aim of pre empting the findings of the ongoing investigation in the corruption accusation facing the duo.
"We want the concerned crime prevention agencies to ignore the sideshows of being perpetrated by the two individuals and act firmly on anyone found culpable," said Mule.
Both the governor and his deputy have been engaged in fierce war of words where both have accused each other of being corrupt.
