Uasin Gishu County Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairlady Anne Kibet has called on Governor Jackson Mandago to incorporate members of the group in all county boards.

The chairlady said for years, women’s rights have been trodden upon due to lack of representation at such boards, and with new systems of devolved governance in place, their presence in such boards was of great importance.

Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday after meeting women from Uasin Gishu, Kibet urged the Governor to ensure that he restructures county boards so as at least each had a member of the Maendeleo ya wanawake, where they can contribute to issues and fight for their rights.

“We are part and parcel of the county government by virtue of having taken part in electing the governor and all members of county Assembly during the last General election and we should be represented,” she said.

She regretted that members of the county MCAs have been lobbying for their friends and relatives to be hired for various jobs, blocking other qualified persons since they have no one to assist them.
