Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has said Machakos County government leadership should consult other various leaders across the county before executing development projects so as to meet public desires and avoid projects duplication.
MP Makau claimed that the county government does not consult leaders, thereby implementing misplaced projects.
"All leaders in Machakos County were elected by their electorates who have confidence in them. Leadership of the government should therefore consult the leaders before executing any project to avoid projects misplacement across the county," said Makau.
Makau who addressed the public in Mlolongo town on Sunday said there are lots of complaints from Mavoko residents that the county government was busy implementing projects which do not have any positive impacts to their lives.
Resident Stephene Kariuki said Mlolongo residents were suffering from poor sanitation posing their lives to health risks though the government was busy planting flowers along the Mombasa road.
"We as Mlolongo residents have been wondering because this town and its environs has never had proper drainage system and sewerage systems since immemorial posing lives of residents at health risks and the saddest thing is that the county government is busy planting flowers along the Mombasa Road from Mlolongo to Machakos town," said Kariuki.
Makau said lack of consultations and good working relationships had also led to duplication of projects in the county, arguing that that was misuse of public funds, hence needed to be stopped with immediate effect.
He cited the construction of a dual carriage along Mombasa Highway which he alleged the Machakos government had intentions to secure funds to implement the same project within the county from Mavoko to Machakos sub-county's where the road passes through.
"The county government of Machakos should not duplicate projects, construction of the proposed dual carriage along Mombasa road is a national function that will be undertaken by Kenya National Highways Authority. The county government should not equally implement the project and instead upgrade county roads alongside implementing projects that would directly improve living standards of the residents like investing in agriculture, health and education," said Makau.
Makau said it was in justice for the county government to turn its back to other elected leaders across the county and impose projects to the residents thereby not meeting public expectations.
