Nakuru residents have been urged to make use of government hotlines in an attempt to help link service providers with the general public.

According to Nakuru Police boss Bernard Kioko, this will ensure that crime and other emergencies will reach the right authorities on time prompting the expected response.

“We are ever ready to receive complains and other issues that need immediate response through our hotlines,” he said.

Kioko called on the public to involve the police in all crime related activities saying that it was the only way that will see criminals and other law breakers face the law.

Speaking during a public participation forum held at the old town hall within Nakuru Central Business District (CBD), Kioko accused residents of hiding criminals amidst themselves while complaining about police laxity in dealing with crime.

“Those who engage in crime are our brothers and sisters who live with us but we don’t want to come out and expose them. All you want is to accuse us (police) of not doing our job while you don’t give us the required information regarding what is happening behind our backs,” he explained.

Kioko further said that a majority of government officers employed to serve the nation were sitting idle at their work stations while there was a lot to be attended to.

“How do you expect officers say from the fire or children’s department dal with a case at your home without informing them,” he posed.

He said public participation as the remedy to a majority of activities taking place in the society which he says will enhance free flow of information.

Among government department that have functional hotlines are; police, fire stations, ambulance services and children departments.
