Mavoko Sub-County Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chairlady, Angeline Malonza, on Tuesday faulted leadership of adult education in Mavoko for poor public attendance at international literacy day celebrations.
Speaking during the event at Mavoko Stadium in Athi River Town, Malonza said the leaders did not conduct proper public sensitisation on the global event.
"There are no people in this function. The leadership of adult education in Mavoko Sub-County is to blame for failing to sensitise the public," said Maloza.
She said it was a disappointment for the region to hold the international annual event in an empty ground as several residents stayed indoors with nothing important to do.
"Many people are idling around in the estates and slums around as others especially youth take miraa in their usual joints within the sub-county," said Malonza.
Maloza advised the leaders to in future engage provincial administrators effectively for public sensitisation in a bid of ensuring that adult education events were successfully attended in the region.
Sub-county adult education officer, Simon Masila, said the department did not conduct intensive public sensitisation due to inadequate resources.
Masila noted that his office will in future engage all relevant stakeholders in planning, organising and executing projects.
At the same time, Malonza said that teachers should stop their frequent strikes whenever national examinations approach.
She said the strikes are an injustice to children who will be sitting for their national examinations in public schools across the country.
