A 63-year-old man from Kisumu was on Thursday charged with stealing a goat from his neighbour.

Omboko George a resident of Otongolo denied the charges before Kisumu chief magistrate Esther Maina. He allegedly committed the offence on September 14.

Omboko is alleged to have stolen the goat from his neighbour Mr Edmond Osweke and sold it at a local market. He was arrested on the on September 15 after the matter was reported to the local authorities who launched investigation that led to his arrest. The goat was later recovered and taken to the owner.

Omboko, however, told the court that, the complainant had a debt of long ago which he has been refusing to pay.

Omboko said that he had tried by all means to get his debt back but all in vain. He said he had no choice but to take the goat to repay himself.

The magistrate released him on a cash bail of Sh5000 with a surety of similar amount pending the hearing of the case on January 13 next year.
