A middle aged man whose bid to escape from Thika GK Prison where he was serving a 9 month jail term was thwarted was stunned when a Thika court increased his jail term by an extra 6 months.

Martin Mugo who pleaded guilty to the charge before Resident magistrate Esther W. Mburu admitting that on October 2 he fled after he was assigned to clean the Thika prison warden houses. He will now serve a total of 15 months in jail.

The court made sure that the accused was re-arrested on October 3 this year at Majengo slums area in Thika West Sub-County after a tip from the area residents.

In mitigation, Mugo pleaded for leniency saying that he had left her wife expectantat home and was worried about her condition.

In a similar court, George Njoroge was released on a Sh100, 000 bond with a similar bail amount after he pleaded not guilty to a defilement charge.

He was accused for defiling a nine-year-old girl at Mang’u, Karitwa village in Gatundu North Sub County on the October 1st 2015 this year. The case will be heard on 3rd December 2015.
