Police in Kiambu are interrogating a man believed to have killed his three day old son on Tuesday by knocking him down after a domestic quarrel in Kanunga village.

Speaking to Hivisasa in his office on Wednesday, Kiambu OCPD Mr Stephen Ng’etich said Stephen Waihenya was reported to Kiambu police by his wife Ms Rahab Waithera, 37.

Ngetich said it was reported that on the material day the suspect reportedly came home at around midnight while drunk and started quarrelling with his wife over family issues. He allegedly hurriedly grabbed the child and threw him on the floor.

The newly born baby was rushed to Kiambu Hospital where he died while being attended to in the casualty room. The body was moved to the Kiambu Hospital mortuary waiting for post mortem to ascertain the cause of baby’s death.

The suspect was arrested early on Wednesday and locked in at Kiambu Police Station.

The OCPD noted that drunkenness is the main contributory factor to many domestic violence incidences in Kiambu County.
