A man was on Thursday arraigned before Nakuru court for allegedly stealing 17 cows. Bernard Mutai was charged for allegedly stealing 17 cows valued at Sh3.4 million on the night of August 5 and 6 at Berut area in Rongai.
Mutai also admitted on the second account after 6 freshian cows valued at Sh1.2 million were found in his possession at Roret area in Bureti sub-county of Kericho on August 11.
He told the court that he is just a victim because he bought two cows only to realize later that the cows were stolen.
"The cows were found in my compound after i bought two of them and paid some amount to the sellers, i didn't not know the cows were stolen," he said
He promise to help the prosecution to find the people who are responsible for the cows theft once he is out of the court.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo, he pleaded not guilty and prayed that the court gives him reasonable bond terms and cash bail.
Doreen said that people should know that if there was no market for stolen property then there would have been no need to steal.
Mutai was released on a surety bond of Sh600,000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000. The case will be heard on September 21.
