A man was on Friday morning arraigned before a Kisumu court to answer to charges of looting a shop in Obunga slums in Kisumu.

Ronald Okumu denied the charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate, Thomas Obutu for the offence he is alleged to have committed on the August 5 this year.

According to the prosecution, Okumu committed the offence after taking advantage of a commotion that had ensued.

The court heard that, locals of Obunga had caught a thief and people were chasing after him. In the process of finding out what was happening Anna Akinyi left her shop. Okumu is alleged to have crept in where he stole two kilograms of sugar, flour and cooking oil.

When he was trying to leave the shop Akinyi saw him and raised alarm attracting those around, who managed to chase after him. They caught him and brought him to Obunga police station where he was detained after recording a statement.
