A 25-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to serve 36 years in jail after he was found guilty of raping a 75-year-old woman.
Geoffrey Ogeto was also found guilty of stealing and breaking into another person’s house.
Ogeto who had denied committing the offence before Nyamira Senior Resident Magistrate, Beatrice Nyatigo was found guilty after five witnesses gave their evidence in court.
The court heard that on October 31, 2014 in Ramba area, Nyamira South Sub County, Ogeto broke into the old woman’s thatched grass hut at night before raping her.
The accused had on the same night stolen bedding belonging to a lodging in Nyamira before proceeding to the old woman’s house. After committing the act, he left the house and forgot to take the beddings he had stolen with him.
These bedding were what led the lodging operator, Ms Rebecca Moraa to identify him.
A medical examination at Nyamira Hospital proved that the old woman had also lost two teeth in the struggle and she had bruise marks on her thighs.
Ogeto had been in custody all along, after he was denied bond.
