A man from Nyangusu region in Kisii County was allegedly butchered on Tuesday by his half-brother following a squabble of a family land.

According to eye witnesses, Nelson Ogamba, 48,   died on arrival at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after suffering from deep cuts on his head allegedly inflicted by Kepha Kebaso after a dispute over a 1.5 hectares piece of land.

Trouble began when Ogamba ordered his half-brother to desist from claiming the piece of land, arguing that it belonged to the first family. The suspect then is said to have taken a panga and repeatedly cut the deceased before running away from the village.

“They have been having trouble over the piece of land. Their father had two wives and the family claimed the land which the father had not partitioned before his demise in 2013. Kebaso was angered and decided to attack his brother and ran away,” said Peter Okemwa.

Efforts by residents to separate the two brothers were futile since they were both said to be in possession of crude weapons.

The Area chief, Wellington Ondimu confirmed the incident and said the authorities were pursuing the suspect.

“It is true that a man died after allegedly being attacked by his brother. We are currently pursuing the suspect and hope he will be apprehended and arraigned before a court,” he said.
