A 69-year-old man was on Thursday evening allegedly killed by his son over a land dispute at Makairo sub location, Ramba Location, in Nyamira County.
Daniel Okong’o was murdered in cold blood after differing with his son over a parcel of family land.
According to a close relative who sought anonymity, the deceased and his son have been at logger heads for quite some time after the son threatened to sell the family land and purchase a motor bike.
“The son threatened to kill his father if he did not comply with the request. It is so unfortunate that he went on and killed his own father,” said the relative.
Confirming the incident Area Chief Mr Francis Raini said the suspect was at large. He said investigations have been launched to track him.
Mr Raini called on area residents to seek the intervention of authorities when they have land conflicts so that it is handled in a professional and safe manner.
He said the body had been removed to the Nyamira Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination. Raini asked residents to cooperate with police and avail information that will help in apprehending the suspect.
