Police in Kiambu Sub County are holding a 50-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife in Riabai over claims she stole money from his account. Confirming the incident from his office on Thursday, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng'etich said the suspect accosted his wife on Wednesday night and hit her several times on the head and back using a wooden bar fitted with nails leaving her with serious injuries.
Neighbours who responded to the alarm raised by the wife tried to save her life but unfortunately she passed on while on the way to hospital. The police boss said the deceased Jane Mwai is alleged to have stolen unknown amount of money from the husband’s account using an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card Ng'etich said police have launched investigations into circumstances surrounding the heinous incident which has left villagers in confusion as burial arrangements for the deceased are being made.
“We are doing investigations to unearth what transpired before this incident. The accused will be availed in court as soon we complete investigations,” he said. Meanwhile the OCPD urged the public to desist from taking the law in their hands in cases of disputes urging them to report any misunderstanding to chiefs or police who can assist to resolve the conflicting issues.
“It is annoying to note that cases of members of the public taking the law in their own hands against those perceived to be offenders are on the rise in the recent past. We call up on the public to incorporate chiefs and the police in resolution of disputes. This is the only way we will ensure justice for all,” he said.
