Maseno residents have been asked to ensure they sleep under mosquito nets during this rainy season.

Area chief Nicholas Toro has said that local dispensaries are recording high number of patients suffering from malaria.

Toro said that mosquitoes breed in large numbers during this rain season, and locals should take charge by sleeping under nets.

“Malaria kills, and we should not reach a point where a life is lost. To avoid this, lets all sleep under a mosquito net which is treated,” said Toro.

Toro, who was speaking during a baraza on Monday added that most patients received were pregnant women and young children, who are a vulnerable lot and should take measures to be safe.

“Apart from sleeping under nets, we should also clear bushes and drain stagnant water to curb breeding of mosquitoes,” added Toro.

The chief called on the residents to be visiting hospitals once they develop malaria symptoms, and avoid self-diagnosis and treatment as it is risky to their lives and health.

Locals with no nets were also asked to visit public hospitals in order to receive them for free.
