Maseno University has denied reports that the postponement of the university fifteenth graduation is linked to the burning of part of the university administration block.

The university Public Relations Officer Jasper Otieno said the university Chancellor Michael Joseph made the postponement because of other engagements.

Mr Otieno said the ceremony could not proceed without the presence of the chancellor thus occasioning the delay.

“Our Chancellor had set the December 4, date and again he called to request that the graduation be delayed by a week so that he could attend to other pressing issues,” he said.

According to information posted on the institution’s website, the graduation will be held on December 11, instead of December 4 as earlier stated.

The postponement was linked to the recent events witnessed at the institution where part of the administration block was reduced to ashes.

The institution was later closed indefinitely following the death of two students in relation to the students’ elections.

Mr Otieno said the two events could not occasion the postponement of the graduation ceremony.

“Those are lies, as an institution, we could not proceed with the graduation in the absence of our chancellor who called himself to request the postponement and set the December 11, date,” he said.
