The fire which broke out on Monday afternoon and left more than 200 Mashimoni residents homeless has made the victims tell who their heroes and heroines are.

Standing where one of the houses was, the ashes could show how the tenant lost his property.

Adam Kioko , a guard in the city centre said his neighbours are his heroes since they forced their way into his house to salvage some of his belongings.

‘’Mashujaa wangu ni hawa maneighbours. Nilikua job so ni hao walinisavia vitu zangu,’’said Kioko (My heroes are my neighbours. I was at work so they forced their way into the house to save my property).

Lucy Mutinda acknowledged her friend Anne Njogu as her heroine saying she helped her carry her property to her house for safe keeping until the fire was put out.

"My house was not consumed by the fire but my fear was what if it did. I had to act first since in Kibera, fire spreads very fast. Anne came to my rescue and we managed to save all my belongings," said Mutinda.

‘’All in all, we Mashimoni people are heroes since we managed to contain the fire after the emergency fire services ran out of water," she added .
