A Thika based matatu Sacco has warned matatu owners who are not members against branding their vehicles with the Sacco's logo.

The chairman of 2TS Sacco, Michael Kamande, has given the warning after a matatu that had been branded with their logos was involved in an accident in Thika last weekend killing two people.

The driver and the conductor of the matatu have since gone into hiding.

"That matatu does not belong to 2TS Sacco because it is not in our registers or at the booking desk. The owner had just labeled it to look like it belongs to us. The owner could have come out by now to report to the police about the driver's and the conductor's whereabouts," Kamande said.

Speaking at the Sacco's Thika office on Tuesday, Kamande said they have sought permission from the police to carry out an inspection of matatus that have been associating themselves with the Sacco but are not members.

He said some matatus have been expelled from the Sacco but are still associating themselves with the Sacco. He said legal action will be taken against such.

A manhunt has allegedly been initiated to arrest the owner of the Matatu.
