A crisis is looming in Mau Summit between locals and a road construction company.

This follows accusations that the company is using man power from other regions and ignoring locals.

The residents have threatened to demonstrate next week if a Chinese Company working on a road in the area does not give their young people jobs.

Speaking in the area on Sunday, the residents accused the Chinese of sourcing their work force from neighbouring areas at their expense.

“We have able and qualified young people willing to take up the initiative of working on the on going road project,” noted Elijah Kiptoo, a village elder who spoke on behalf of the over 50 residents.

“Our question is why use individuals from neighbouring villages while our very own keep on suffering due to lack of jobs?” he posed.

A multi-million shilling fly over is under construction on the Nakuru- Kisumu Highway near Mau Summit to ease congestion.

According to Chuong’ Wud Jan, an engineer with Maultauro China Road Contractors, plans are underway to come up with an inclusive structure that will see advertisement of relevant opportunities where qualified personnel will be given jobs.

“Let them understand that this is a company and employment must follow the right protocol,” he said.

He added, “What they don’t know is that we are formulating a long time solution that will see their people absorbed into our structures for good.”
