Representative of Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in Mavoko sub-county, Joseph Kibe, has challenged disabled persons to apply for tenders and do business with the government.

Speaking when he met a section of Persons living with Disability at his office in Mavoko on Tuesday, Kibe said that most disabled persons in the sub-county are not applying for government tenders.

Kibe said that statistics provided by the sub-county administration show that the group is not applying for tenders.

The representative said that though the government has put in place programmes for their empowerment, many of them are not taking advantage of them.

Kibe urged them to apply for the tenders in a bid improve their living standards.

He said that through the tenders, they will be able to do business with the government and empower themselves.

Kibe at the same time urged the national government to set aside more funds for the empowerment of Persons Living with Disabilities.

He observed that the current funding set aside for them is not sufficient to address their problems.

On the same note, Kibe asked the government to conduct a census of people living with disability in the sub-county.

He observed that there are no exact figures of disabled persons in the area a situation he said has hampered their empowerment.
