Teachers from Mavoko Sub-County have been told to support the community's initiative of nurturing talents among children from the region.
Addressing a teachers meeting at Mavoko Primary school on Wednesday, Mavoko constituency manager Jeremiah Kalao said the office of the area MP was committed to nurturing talents among children and youth at all levels.
"Teachers should support the community's commitment to ensure that children talents are nurtured in the entire sub-county," said Kaloi.
Kaloi argued that not all children could succeed in academics hence the need to nature their talents in order to prepare them in advance in case they do not make it in academics.
He said there were several renown personalities who had made it in life through talents such as sports, athletics, theater among others.
Kaloi however accused teachers in the region of suppressing their students' talents by focusing more on books thereby denying them the right to play.
John Otieno, a teacher, said it was not true that children were kept in class with books all the time.
"We admit that we engage the children to the maximum for their own good since we want them to pass their examinations with flying colors. It is wrong to say that we do not give them time to play because lower primary children are never engaged that much," said Otieno.
The teachers said they would consider the constituency manager's request, as it is healthy for the children to be given some time to play.
Kaloi said his office would donate ten footballs to schools within the county in order to promote sports and talents among the children.
