Mavoko nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Veronica Mativo has challenged women in the sub-county to take part in active politics and contribute their opinions and advise on matters of development.

Speaking at Ndovoini Ward in Mavoko on Thursday, Motivo said women have been empowered by the constitution to give their views without infringement.

The MCA added that women voices should be heard saying they are the only people who can execute change in society.

She claimed their male counterparts have failed the country in key issues especially corruption, insecurity and general leadership.

Motivo said she will support programmes that are meant to empower women socially, politically and economically.

The MCA further advised women to apply for Uwezo Funds saying most women are reluctant to apply for the funds.

She said failure by women to apply for the funds has continued the chains of poverty in Mavoko.

“Women should not fear to seek development funds being given by the government,” she said.

The MCA said lack of awareness has seen many women shy away from the funds. She said that it will be necessary for the county government to sensitise women and other marginalised groups on the existence of development funds.
