More than 60 youth and women leaders from Mavoko Sub-County were on Thursday sensitised on their reproductive health rights.
Addressing journalists during the one day workshop at the Salvation Army Church in Athi River Town, Elizabeth Okumu, the programme officer at Trust For Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH) said the workshop was intended to empower women and girls on their constitutional rights as far as reproductive health is concerned.
"The project is geared towards ensuring that women are empowered on their reproductive health rights so as to enable them seek services on the same," said Okumu.
Okumu said TICAH is committed to ensuring women access easy and affordable reproductive health services without strain in a bid to curb deaths that occur during child birth.
The programme officer said the organisation also trains community health workers as trainer of trainers to ease dissemination of information, by training other trainers who reach out to women and girls in and out of school through organised groups.
She noted that majority of women in Machakos County fail to seek reproductive health services from professionals due to ignorance and high costs of the services.
Okumu said once trained, the organisation links beneficiaries with credible professional service providers for easy and affordable access to the reproductive health services at subsidised rates.
She said over 2,000 women and youth across the country have so far benefited from the project since its inception in 2014.
