Mavoko sub-county youth leader Maurice Ndemo has challenged youths to take advantage of the government funds and venture into business.

Addressing youths at Syokimau trading centre on Friday, Ndemo said that by applying for development funds youths will be able to promote their lives and help alleviate unemployment.

He stated that the county and the national government has set aside funds meant for youth development.

The youth leader noted that despite the government efforts to set aside development funds many youths are not applying for them.

Ndemo said that Mavoko sub-county is one of the areas that has seen very few youths apply for the Uwezo funds.

“Youths should take full advantage of the funds being given by the government to start business or ventures that will improve their lives,” he said.

The youth leader at the same time asked youths not to misuse funds given to them by the government.

Ndemo said that several cases of youths misusing the funds have been reported.

He said that the funds were meant to help youth start business and the youth should not use the funds on entertainment and drinking.

He asked the sub-county Uwezo fund officials to sensitise the beneficiaries of the funds on how to use the money.

The youth leader also cautioned young people against indulging in drug and substance abuse.

Ndemo noted that cases of youths abusing drugs are on the rise.

He said that as leaders they have organised forums and events which aim at sensitising young people on the effects of drug and substance abuse.
