Over 10,000 housing units are needed in Nakuru County annually to cater for the rising demand emanating from an increase in population, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.
Mbugua said on Friday at a press conference at the county headquarters that the county was experiencing a population increase that is not commensurate to the number of houses being built.
He said investment in the real estate sector will help curtail an expected housing crisis.
He said Nakuru town alone currently faces a shortage of approximately 8,000 housing units.
The governor spoke two weeks after calling on local and international investors to consider injecting cash in the real estate sector in the county.
He said only about 2,000 housing units are built in the county annually.
"The county government has reduced the time frame of approving development plans to 30 days to encourage more investors in the housing sector," he said.
