Slums and informal settlements will be highly hit by El Nino effects, Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.

Speaking at Oisaito on Thursday during a mitigation forum, Mbugua called on relevant stakeholders to be on the move lest El Nino catches them unprepared.

"El Nino is real, nobody should assume it because the weatherman has predicted it and they are in charge of everything concerning climatic changes," he said.

Areas home to rain forests are prone to the anomaly with the county weather forecast office promising that everything is under control.

"We are on alert of anything contravening the law as enforcers because you safety is our priority," he offererd.

Nakuru, Kakamega, Uasin Ngishu and Busia are among counties put on alert that El Nino might have severe effects on them.
