Matungulu Ward Member of County Assembly, Magdalene Ndawa, has called for political tolerance among political leaders from Ukambani in a bid to promote the region's development.

Addressing journalists at her office in Matungulu on Thursday, Ndawa said political interference was interfering with development of counties within Ukambani.

"I call on all political leaders from Ukambani to tone down their politics and join hands with other leaders in a bid to promoting development in the counties for the interest of the common mwananchi,” said Ndawa.

According to Ndawa, majority of leaders from the region are engrossed in politics thereby end up forgetting either supporting or providing services to their electorates hence compromising development.

Ndawa said most of the leaders were already focused on the on coming 2017 polls hence polarising the county in terms of political parties and affiliations with some supporting the Jubilee government and others the opposition.

She said politics is not bad but it is not yet time to play politics as residents of various counties within the region languish in abject poverty.

The MCA said all leaders including politicians whether elected, nominated or not in position who have interests in rallying in forthcoming elections should join hands and work together to ensure development and improved living standards of those hailing from the regions.

The counties she referred to include Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and Mwingi counties which she said lacked political good will in their managements.

Ndawa lauded Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua for his exemplary leadership that had seen the county rated number one among all the 47 counties in terms of development.

She called on all the leaders and residents from the counties to develop positive attitudes and create a good rapport with their county leaders to help them realise their manifestos and make devolution successful.
