Kisii County Majority Whip Henry Moracha has urged residents to collect ID cards, some which have reportedly stayed for over a year without being collected.
According to the statistics obtained from the civil registry in Kisii County, over 4,000 IDs remained uncollected, even after successful application in various centres.
Speaking at the county assembly offices, Moracha urged residents to take a responsibility of doing a follow up and collect the important document.
“We went to the civil registry and what I saw was shocking. Over 4,000 IDs remain uncollected yet applicants have a prime responsibility to do so. I want to call upon those have registered to do a follow up to clear the mess,” Moracha said.
He however called upon the provincial administration to pick the important document on behalf of residents who are said to be travelling several kilometers to pick the document from Kisii town.
“I however understand the logistical problems behind everything. This can be solved by having our chiefs and assistant chiefs to pick the documents on behalf of the residents, but that doesn’t mean that applicants sit and wait,” he added.
Last week, the Cord coalition was in Nyamira and Kisii Counties to sensitize locals on the importance of having the important document.
The Kipande initiative, which was spearheaded by ODM Secretary General Ababu Namwamba saw over 10,000 Gusii residents applying for the crucial national document.
