A member of the Nyamira County Assembly has reiterated the commitment of the county government in promoting youth’s welfare in the region.

Speaking at Zonic Hotel during a meeting with a section of youth leaders on Monday, Gesima MCA Mr Ken Atuti, said the county leadership had prioritised youth affairs by setting aside Sh120m in the 2015/16 financial year adding that the ministry of youth affairs is currently coming up with a disbursement plan.

Atuti urged youth leaders to be in constant communication with both the assembly and the executive to help in resonating views for better services to the youths.

“Rumours that the youths have been ignored is outrageous and total malice to incite the public. We had set aside Sh120m this year and the sports department will soon come up with a strategic plan. All we need is the youth leadership working closely with the team to learn about the progress,” he said.

He urged the youth to desist from making judgments out of rumours and challenged them to be counted on the right side of history by supporting the initiatives set by the county government.

“It is quite wrong that our youths are incited to bring discomfort in the current administration. Be on the right side of history by helping the current leaders to come up with a way forward. The administration has always worked closely with the assembly and administration to help the youths,” he added.

Youth Senate President Mr Jason Mogire however challenged the assembly to come up with legislations that would reduce bureaucracies that youths are subjected to when seeking help.

“We have not challenged the commitment of the assembly and the executive with helping the youth but the bureaucracies that they face when accessing certain funds. That should be minimised,” said Mogire.
