Ting'ang'a MCA Lawrence Mwaura has raised alarm over the increased cases of child labour saying it was major contributor to school drop outs.
Speaking at a women's meeting on Tuesday at the Ting'ang'a Hall, the MCA said the future of the society was dependent on the success of the young generation.
"The future of our society getting is at risk because the young generation is already getting lost," he said.
Mwaura says that cases of children being employed has risen in the past five months hence contributing to high numbers of school drop outs.
"Those who are employing children lack basic parental values. They are aware the children are under age but still go ahead and give them work. Such people should be arrested and made an example for others," he lamented.
The MCA says that the problem should be handled at an early stage to avoid an escalation while calling on parents to maintain good parental values.
He says in several cases parents have sent out their children to look for employment due to poverty. He however stressed that no excuse should be given by people condoning the vice.
"This is a serious menace that should be addressed with urgency. I will ensure I communicate with the police and the chief to start a crackdown. I will also address the issue in the county assembly for the issue to be fought in the the entire county," said Mwaura.
