Kiambu county Assembly is set to debate on a motion that seeks to compel the Sports and Youth department to hire ward sports and youth facilitators who will ensure young people in the county benefit from the government services.
Speaking to the press in Thika town on Tuesday, Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi said that the coordinators will enable planning and coordination of youth activities besides promoting and managing sport talents at the ward level.
Wamwangi who is planning to table the motion in the assembly said that adequate investment in sports would be a bold step into developing the county and absorbing a large number of reformed alcoholics.
The Legislator noted with concern that there has been increased idling after the closure of all several rogue bars in the area. He says the youth who quit drinking are now faced with a terrifying challenge of reclaiming status in the society saying they therefore needed guidance.
“These youth need mentorship and to be kept busy and we cannot let them stay idling. If the motion passes then the CeC will ensure the youth are served at their doorsteps and with that they will get easy access to funds and other services,” he said.
