Mang’u Ward member of county assembly Samuel Mwangi has urged the Kiambu government to support widows and orphans by setting up special kitties to improve their living standards.

“Widows and orphans are suffering in silence by facing untold economic hardships and poverty,” noted Mwangi.

He revealed that the kitties the county is supposed to initiate will address the financial needs of the widows and orphans.

Speaking in Watema Children’s Home on Wednesday where he offered foodstuff, Mwangi appealed to Gover William Kabogos’ leadership set up a special fund to cater for the interest of the widows and orphans.

He said in certain instances, the affected families sleep hungry and while the children do not go to school due to lack of support.

“It’s unfortunate that leaders neglect widows and orphaned children instead of supporting their course in society,” he noted.

He lamented that many children from widowed families have dropped out of school due to lack of fees because the widows are unable to shoulder the burden of supporting their families.

“I have seen orphaned children drop out of school due to lack of essential support by our leaders, I am ready to move a motion in the assembly that will help push the setting aside of a special fund for widows and orphans,” said the MCA.
