A section of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nyamira have assured the public on their ability to execute their oversight and representation roles without being compromised by external forces.

Led by Rigoma MCA Ben Sironga, they accused the office of the Auditor General for allegedly linking them with massive financial impropriety and fraud.

According to them, the assembly had executed its oversight role with the recent impeachment of senior officers who were allegedly linked with massive losses of funds from the county by the Auditor General’s report.

“As MCAs, we are very serious individuals and we have always ensured that our people are well represented. We have already dismissed officers who were linked with massive withdrawals of money without following the due process,” Sironga said on a tour of Keroka township.

They urged residents to desist from what they termed as rumour mongers and instead urged them to support initiatives aimed at fighting graft by the MCAs.

“Sometimes it is a cumbersome job for us. When we fight corruption, people start accusing us of targeting certain individuals. Pease give us humble time for the purpose of ensuring all these issues are fixed,” added Gesima Ward MCA Ken Atuti.

They promised to ensure the proposed Bunge Mashinani kicks of next month in a bid to make services available to people so that they can be able to air their views without necessarily travelling to county headquarters.

“The Bunge Mashinani initiative is in progress and probably by next month all will be set. All we need is just patience as we finalise logistics,” Sironga added.
