Patients with mental illnesses in Kisii County will this week benefit from free medication provided by Care Africa, a local non-governmental organisation.
Mr Harshad Lee, a director of Care Africa, said the organisation will be conducting the exercise for the whole week in Kisii Stadium before moving to other counties. He said they want to ensure those with mental problems receive the necessary treatment.
Mr Harshad said Kisii County is the first county to benefit from this kind of treatment because statistics show it is among the counties with high numbers of people with mental problems.
“It is the second day and we see the turn out being great. There are many patients who haven’t been attended to due to the high numbers, but we have called for more doctors to help,” said Harshad on Tuesday.
An excited Jane Kerubo, a Kisii resident said she had brought her brother who is ill. She said they have been to many hospitals seeking treatment but were unable to raise the required fee. She said they hoped that he would finally be treated.
“This being a free service I would like to call on those who have patients at home to bring them to Gusii Stadium so that they can receive treatment,” said Kerubo
