Two minors on Thursday admitted before a Nakuru court to having assaulted a man over a cigarette.

The boys, who said they are 16 and 17 years old, admitted that they assaulted James Kuria at Kihingo village in Njoro Sub-County.

According to the prosecution, the boys assaulted Kuria after having a short argument over a cigarette which they were smoking. The boys, who had just been circumcised, were smoking when Kuria questioned them about it. They retaliated by beating him causing him actual bodily harm.

They begged the court and Kuria for forgiveness.

"I pray that the court forgives me. That was the only way we could defend ourselves," said one of them.

The court ordered that they be taken for age assessment before the court delivers its verdict on July 28. In the meantime, they will remain in remand.
