Moi university main campus in Eldoret was on Monday 13th July 2015 closed indefinitely.
This follows student unrest in the campus related to upcoming Moi University Student Organisation (MUSO) elections which were to be held in a week's time.
Addressing the students in a memo, the schools vice chancellor said that the schools management on behalf of the senate had decided to indefinitely close the campus with immediate effect.
“Following the students unrest relating to MUSO Elections on the upcoming elections for the 29th SGC and destruction of property within main campus, the university management on behalf of the senate has decided to indefinitely close Moi University with immediate effect,” read the memo signed by Prof Richard K Mibey the vice chancellor.
It is still unclear what caused the riots with some students claiming that supporters of an aspirant who wanted to change the seat he was vying for clashed with supporters of another aspirant for the position that the former wanted to change to.
Campaign posters and banners of opponents were destroyed.
The closure comes just four days before the MUSO elections and five days after university of Eldoret was closed down indefinitely due to student unrest over school fees.
