Motorists along Mombasa Road have raised complaints over increased numbers of cattle owned by the Maasai community causing obstructions.
Speaking to HiviSasa at DEVKI stage in Athi River, Joseph Waweru a truck driver said the cattle had become a nuisance and had the potential of causing accidents along the road.
He says they cause traffic congestion whenever they cross the roads at points that are not marked by the Kenya National Highway Authorities for that purpose.
He called on the government's intervention saying that several heads of cattle, goats and sheep had in various circumstances knocked down at various points of the road.
"The national government through KeNHA should intervene by marking and putting road signs at designated parts of the highway to reduce the accidents and manage traffic snarl-ups frequently caused by the cattle," said Waweru.
Athi River MCA, Michael Mutua, confirmed that incidents of cattle disrupting traffic along the road had increased, a situation that he says is worrying.
Mutua who says he also uses the road on a daily basis said the cattle keep causing traffic snarl-ups whenever they are crossing the highway.
"The increased movement is a sign that there is a drought in parts of Maasai land in Kajiado County where the cattle come from for water and pasture," he said.
