Kisumu county government has been challenged to put aside its resources to build more voluntary counseling and testing institutions that offers both counseling and expertise to the local.

Kisumu county human activist, Killen Omondi speaking on Tuesday morning at Kisumu county hospital at the VCT, called upon locals to embrace VCT visitations and also calling upon the county government to help see they heavily invested in VCT centre’s as a way to improve local health status by frequently visiting such places and having education.

To him through construction of more of such centres, locals would have a clear picture of staying healthy by frequently attending educational seminars and also attending testing sessions to know their status.

He further challenged on locals not to avoid visiting VCTs saying that it was very important for every individual to live in a status they knew whether sick or not sick, this would reduce the fear of unknown.

“We call upon the county government to uphold the health standards of its locals by making sure every individual can access, voluntary counseling and testing. Besides that the institutions should offer proper training to its locals to acquire expertise that would help local’s nationwide.” said Omondi.

Kisumu county VCT counselor, Ronnie Oguta welcomed Oondithe sentiments to expand more VCTs through construction to help check the locals health status.

Oguta noted that much though needed to be done by creating awareness for locals to feel free to go to such institutions since they were out to help them but not to incriminate them.
