Motorist in Nakuru County have criticised the Nakuru County government for repainting pedestrian crossings in the town using "cheap paint which was easily washed away by rains".

The government, which has started painting the crossings at major areas in the town, took the initiative after a public outcry on social media.

However, residents claim that the paint used has already started fading despite the fact that it was only painted a week ago.

“They often use poor quality of paint to mark the crossings. After about two months, the area is back to its original colour hence painting them is totally useless,” said James Waikibia, a driver.

Waikibia also hit out at the county for failing to put up signs on the areas where they were located.

“Drivers who are new in town find it extremely hard to determine where the crossings are. They often stop abruptly when driving. It’s also hard for the residents to identify where to cross from,” he added

Kio Kinuthia called on the county government to install CCTV cameras on the zebra crossing so as to capture drivers who were not adhering to the rules.

Nakuru director of Roads James Ochieng claimed that the  renovations were being carried out by Kenya highway roads authority.
