Movie shop operators in Kanunga Location in Kiambu County have been cautioned against selling pornographic materials to children as it leads to moral decay.
Speaking in her office on Monday, Kanunga Location Chief, Jane Wambui, said that pornography was a major threat as it alters both sexual attitudes and behaviours in children and there was need to seal the outlets where the material originated from.
“Children who watch pornography at an early age tend to practice sexual acts and most of them end up being addicted as they cannot do without involving themselves in the ventures,” she said.
She said that children who watch pornography tend to practice what they see including sexual assault, rape and this may lead to sexual molestation among innocent children.
The chief said that photography, videos, magazines, virtual games and internet content that depict rape and other sexual acts add dramatic effects and children who watch them develop an appetite for more sexual scenes when they are still minors.
“Children who watch pornography fail in class, drop out of school or even develop sexual fantasies which can lead to masturbation and increase their urge to engage in sex,” said Wambui.
She advised parents to monitor their children by controlling what they watch on television, how they use their phones and the people they spend most of their time with.
Winnie Wanjiru, a parent, said that she controls what her children watch by putting parental control programmes on her television so that her children do not view what is not appropriate for them.
She advised other parents to discipline their children once they have been found watching pornography as this will teach them a lesson and they will desist from visiting such sites.
