Mavoko MP, Patrick Makau has lauded leadership of Athi River Sub county for suppressing insecurity in the region for the last three months.

Addressing press in Athi River town on Tuesday, Makau said the area was lately more habitable as compared to previous months when the rates of insecurity was increasingly high.

"It is important to give credits where is due, I therefore laud our security agents for the good job they have done for the last three months to suppress insecurity," said Makau.

Makau said security was a fundamental need for development to be achieved in any community within the country or any part of the world.

He said the leadership of security agents had heard cries of the locals on insecurity that had escalated most parts of the sub county and worked on practical strategies to avert it.

"A week would not pass without hearing that a businessman has either been robbed or short dead by unknown assailants within the sub county a few weeks back," said Makau.

Athi River police boss Kizito Mutoro, said all security leaders from the region were working harmoniously together towards ensuring enhanced security and order.

Mutoro attested that there had been lots of insecurity in the area stating that most of the criminals were not residents from the sub county but hailed from neighboring towns like Nairobi and Kitengela.

He said through intelligence and members of the public they had managed to identify the criminals hide outs and arrested most of the culprits, Mutoro noted that community policing and nyumba kumi initiatives also played major roles in ensuring enhanced security.

The legislature also commended both national and county government of Machakos for boosting security in the region by offering necessary support in terms of equipment and vehicles to help them in their daily operations.

He said the current county government housing project to Athi River Police officers was a motivation and indication of joint efforts from both the governments to ensure security in the sub county.

Makau said that his office was working on a model of partnership with the local security agents to bridge the existing gap between the law enforcers on the local residents.

He called on the residents to create good relationships with the police arguing that the forces were doing everything possible to ensure all the residents and their property were at all times protected and that they ran their daily businesses without any interruption.
