Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, has called on the county government of Machakos to adopt a Mavoko children's home to make overcome challenges effectively.
Speaking at the Heritage of Faith and Hope Children's Home in Mavoko during its 13th anniversary on Monday, Makau said the government needs to adopt the home since it has none of its own.
"The county government of Machakos has got no children's home of its own, it therefore needs to adopt the Heritage of Faith and Hope Children Home based in Mavoko," said Makau.
Makau said the adoption would ensure the home which hosts 180 children improves its health and education services provision to the vulnerable children.
"I am happy to be associated with the home, I have seen the challenges it faces and will therefore do everything possible to enable it overcome and turn them to opportunities," said Makau.
Makau said he would write a proposal to the county government to initiate the process of having the home under the patronage of the county government.
The MP gave a donation of Sh100,000 in cash and 100 bags of cement to help completion of the home's complex under construction.
The legislature said he would write letters to over 87 industrial companies within the constituency requesting them to lend their support children homes in the area as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility.
The director, Teresia Kimiti, said over 40 children from the orphanage had cleared their college and University education since it was established in the year 2002 and are now working, giving back to the home with others having their own families.
Kimiti said that Naivas Supermarket and the Safaricom Foundation are the companies which had employed most of the children. She said the home faces challenges in paying school fees for the children in secondary schools, colleges and universities.
Makau however cautioned individuals who take advantage of children's vulnerability to make money out of the situation.
"There are people in Mavoko pretending to be running children homes but are out to make money, this must stop immediately," said Makau.
