Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has asked the government to establish at least one rehabilitation centre in every constituency to rehabilitate alcoholics.
Speaking at Maria-ini Catholic Church on Sunday, Kigo said that there is need to treat the victims of excessive alcohol abuse to ensure that they resume their normal lives.
"Alcoholism is a problem that will not only be solved by getting rid of illicit brews but also treating victims of alcohol abuse. Let the government establish a rehab centre per constituency", said Kigo.
The MP noted that there are at least ten cases that have been reported in his constituency of alcoholics suffering from withdrawal symptoms and are currently in various hospitals in the area receiving treatment.
He however lamented that proper diagnosis procedures lack in many hospitals in the area for such patients.
"I am told there are those alcoholics who are in hospital because they have not drunk any alcohol since the crackdown started. These are the people we want in rehab centres so that they can receive proper treatment and counselling," he added.
He asked both the State and the county governments to work together to ensure that they meet the urgent need.
