Ambassador Francis Mathaura has called for the reopening of Garissa University College saying the country cannot allow terrorists to derail progress in the Education sector.
Mathaura who echoed the call by elders from North Eastern region who attended the National Elders Conference at the Kisii University, said elders from all the 47 counties should support the reopening of the institution.
"We cannot close the university because of terror attacks. Let us join hands and preach peace so that we can reopen the university for the better of this country," said Muthaura.
North Eastern elders present during the conference said they had learned the importance of partnerships with learning institutions citing the progress made by the Kisii elders' collaboration with Kisii University.
According to Abagusii Elders chairman, Matundura Araka, the North Eastern elders were motivated to see the varsity reopened after witnessing the success of the local collaboration in Kisii.
“They came up with that idea when they found us working together with the university and now they hope to have their university with which they will work with to develop their community," said Araka.
The university college was closed after it was attacked on April 2, 2015, where 147 people died and more than 70 were injured.
