Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has approved the county’s Sh10.9 billion budget for 2015-2015 financial year.

The Governor assented to the County’s Appropriation Act 2015 that highlights the county’s budgetary allocation for 2015-2016 financial year.

Mutua, who hosted the media while assenting to the Act, lauded the Sh10.9 Billion county budget saying it will help scale up development.

According to the budgetary estimates, the Machakos government has set aside Sh5.7 billion for development while Sh5.2 billion has been allocated to recurrent expenditure.

The county government has also set aside Sh2.4 billion for water and irrigation projects.

Governor Mutua said that the huge allocation to water and irrigation will help the county to drill boreholes, establish dams and supply clean piped water to Machakos people.

He noted that Machakos County has been experiencing water shortage and that the money allocated to the sector will help address the problems.

He also said the county will buy water tanks for every homestead in the county to enable them preserve water.

The governor said the county also aims at encouraging irrigation farming noting that the county receives minimal rainfall.

Another sectors that received huge funding in the budget is health which has been allocated Sh2.2 Billion.

Mutua said that health remains a crucial area that needs good funding so that people can get quality services.

The governor said that money will be used to equip hospitals and also buy specialised equipment to treat chronic ailments.

The Machakos governor lauded the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and the county executive for working hard to ensure budget estimate are completed on time.

He also lauded the public for giving their views during the public forums on the budget noting that their opinions and thoughts on the budget have been incorporated.
