The National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) Chairman John Mututho has called for the establishment of a special police unit to fight illicit brews.
Speaking in Naivasha Town on Monday, Mututho said that the fight against brews must be taken to another level.
He said that establishing a police unit will ensure that brewers are monitored and dealt with.
Mututho said that Nacada alone will not be able to fight the menace, which he said, is deeply ingrained in the grassroots.
“The government should consider establishing a special police unit to supplement our officers in the fight against brews,” he said.
Mututho at the same time has dismissed claims that Nacada has been reluctant to fight the brew menace. He defended the agency saying that they have inadequate resources to weed out brews.
He said that the agency alone can not be able to handle the brewing menace and called on the support of other government agencies.
“I disagree that Nacada has been unable to fight brews what we are lacking is resources to intensify the fight,” he said.
Several leaders have been calling for the disbandment of the anti-drug agency accusing it of failing to curb illicit brews.
Over the weekend, Mututho led several Members of Parliament in Nakuru in a crackdown to get rid of brews where thousands of litres of brews were destroyed.
