Naivasha sub-county veterinary officer Enos Amuyunzu has issued an alert over the outbreak of Lumpy skin disease in Maraigushu division.

Speaking in Naivasha, Dr Amuyunzu said that about 500 cows have already been affected in the area.

He assured livestock farmers that the department was in the process of rolling out a vaccination campaign against the disease. He added that veterinary department was targeting to vaccinate over 5,000 cattle in the exercise.

Amuyunzu appealed to livestock farmers to have all their cattle vaccinated since the disease causes low productivity in animals if they are not vaccinated. He, however, assured that there was no cause for alarm.

He added that there were suspected cases of anthrax and black quarter diseases after some animals exhibited symptoms of the same.

Amuyunzu said the department would also roll out a vaccination campaign for to avert any crisis.
